The National Transportation Security Board (NTSB) launched reports today showing that the pilot of the helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant and 8 others ended up being disoriented by thick fog.
Pilot Ara Zobayan was actually descending, but reported that he was climbing when the crash happened, the NTSB reports stated. Zobayan, who died in the crash, said he was climbing to 4,000 feet to get above clouds, but rather crashed into a hillside, the reports, launched Wednesday, stated.
A final report on the reason for the crash will be provided later on. Today’s reports noted that Zobayan “misperceived” the pitch of his craft, a typical pilot mistake.
Previously this month, Bryant’s widow, Vanessa, filed a wrongful death suit versus the helicopter business and the successor in interest of the pilot. Her 13- year-old child, Gianna, was also eliminated in the crash.
The suit did not define the amount of damages, but did note Bryant’s lost earnings overall in the “numerous millions.”
