More than a dozen unaccompanied migrant kids were privately flown to Iowa this spring, a troubling example of President Joe Biden's failing immigration policy.

State leaders were not notified of the flight to Des Moines, where some travelers reportedly unboarded. For weeks after the state realised, federal immigration authorities rejected any connection to the flight.

Sure, it's less than suitable for the federal government to move kids in the dark of night with no oversight or accountability, and possibly it was ill-advised for the feds to deceive governors and members of Congress. But the genuine issue, according to Democrats, is Gov. Kim Reynolds.

” She's only concentrated on dividing and sidetracking Iowans from her own record and utilizing a phony crisis to further attacks on our friends and neighbors. Iowa Democrats wish to solve the real issues within our own state borders, not play partisan politics that only seek to divide us even more,” Ross Wilburn, chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party, said in the statement.

Yes, Reynolds is using the kids as political pawns, and her challengers are more than happy to do the exact same in a bid to divert attention far from their own leader's ineptitude.

” I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come,” Vice President Kamala Harris stated during a trip to Guatemala this month.

In April, Reynolds was commonly and righteously panned for saying migrant kids are “not our issue” and rejecting a federal request to assist house them. The Iowa guv's refusal to offer help to children in requirement is wrong however it's not what's stopping Biden from successfully resolving the immigration circumstance.

You can call them cages or detention centers depending on the party in power, but the reality is similar: Kids are being held in unsuitable conditions for days and weeks and our federal government has no real strategy to respond. Even worse yet, prevailing policy is likely worsening the crisis.

One reason parents send their kids unaccompanied to the United States is that the kids are most likely to get better treatment than the adults, triggering a practice called self-separation. If we opened legal pathways to adults, a lot of those households probably would remain intact.

Well past his 100- day benchmark in workplace, Biden has made some development at reversing the former Trump administration's immigration limitations, however the pace of change has been slow. That's inappropriate when thousands of vulnerable people are languishing near the border and in short-term positionings.

Not up until this month did the Biden administration formally end Trump's “remain in Mexico” policy and ease controversial barriers for asylum-seekers. Another Trump holdover, called Title 42 expulsion, stays in location.

That policy enables the federal government to expel migrants getting to the border, even if they would otherwise be qualified to apply for legal status. It was enforced at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic under the guise of securing public health. If it ever was required, it certainly is outdated now.

The new administration is not rather like the old one, but they're more comparable than it may appear.

” I wish to be clear to folks in this region who are considering making that unsafe trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come,” Vice President Kamala Harris stated throughout a trip to Guatemala this month.

It's “nation is complete” all over again, today with a D behind the names.
