In US news and current events today, the thick nearly 5,000-mile-long plume of dust was caused by storm-related winds in the Sahara Desert on June 14. Sahara Desert dust is routinely ejected from Africa’s west coast in June, but this year’s event is rare due to the dust storm’s thickness, low altitude, and geographic reach.
